What size kit should i get?

Measure your hoop carefully to see how each length will fit and if the length of lights you're considering will have a gap or an overlap. You can't go wrong, but each setup has its own pros and cons.

You can measure all around the outer edge of the hoop to get the circumference. Or, measure from the outside of one edge to the opposite edge to get the diameter, and use an online circumference calculator to determine the full circumference.

Next, use the information below to determine what's best for your setup. If you have any questions or aren't sure what size to get, please email kyle.secretsquirrel@gmail.com and include the diameter or circumference of your rig (this information is very difficult for us to find online so getting the measurements is a huge help!).

  • A hoop with a diameter of 50.1" is a 4m/157.5" circumference
  • A hoop with a diameter of 56.4" is a 4.5m/177.2" circumference
  • A hoop with a diameter of 62.7" is a 5m/196.9" circumference

4 meter light strip pros:

  • Uses less power as it's got 375 fewer LEDs
  • Easier to route the cables onto most frames
  • Light strip suffers less abuse as the base of the frame retains its factory stance and clearances in the case of a butt-landing or slide

4 meter light strip cons:

  • Leaves a gap in light at the base of the hoop
  • Your buddy might say theirs is "bigger"

4.5 meter light strip pros:

  • Lights the entirety of most standard hoops (slight gap on XL hoops)

4.5 meter light strip cons:

  • Uses more energy than the 4m lights
  • Potentially more difficult to route the cables
  • Possible overlap of the ends of the lights if your hoop is less than 4.5m
  • Light strip is potentially exposed to damage if you suffer a butt-landing or slide

5 meter light strip pros:

  • This is for larger or XL hoops and uses a different module than our other length options
  • You can tell your friends "yours is the biggest"

5 meter light strip cons:

  • Uses the most energy of all our light kits
  • Potentially more difficult to route the cables
  • Possible overlap of the ends of the lights if your hoop is less than 5m
  • Light strip is potentially exposed to damage if you suffer a butt-landing or slide

Above are a couple examples of how the different lengths fit on the outside dimension of a hoop (5m photos coming soon). The 58" diameter hoop shows a 4M kit with a gap at the bottom so the frame can rest on the ground. On the 54.5" diameter hoop, the 4.5m kit is slightly longer so there's a 2" overlap, but it creates a full circle of lights.

Don't be fooled by a knock off! Our lighting control unit is imprinted with the Secret Squirrel logo, the end cap of the light strip has an enameled red acorn, and the control handle has a small red enameled squirrel by the push button. Check out the Products page for photos.

Most orders ship the following business day. Orders that include a battery will be shipped by UPS ground. For larger orders, you will receive a tracking number once your order ships. For smaller orders (such as stickers), you will receive a notification when your order ships.

These kits were designed to add as little weight as possible. An installed kit with a battery in a LiPo bag weighs about two and a half pounds (just over one kg). The weights break down to:

  • Light strips: 4.5m light strip/1 lb. 3 oz.;    4.0m light strip/1 lb. 1 oz.;    2.5m light strip/13 oz.
  • Battery and LiPo bag: 1 lb.
  • Control handle, lighting control unit, zip ties: 8 oz.

We currently only ship to the contiguous 48 United States. If you're outside of that area, keep us in mind if you're visiting or have a friend here we can ship to!

Send me an e-mail detailing what you're looking for at  kyle.secretsquirrel@gmail.com . We can't always do custom options, but if we can make it work we will!

You're in luck! Order more than one sticker and receive $3 off a second sticker. Use code squirrelstick2.

RC Battery is an excellent resource on battery safety guidelines. Check out their page here: https://rcbattery.com/battery-safety-guidelines

A low battery will cause the lights to appear abnormal or in different colors than expected. If you see this, unplug the battery as soon as you can safely do so and re-charge it.

The Lighting Control Unit (the black rectangular box with the squirrel logo on it) has been potted before sealing so everything inside is secure. Note: The lid is permanently secured, do not attempt to remove it.
